Shear viscosity in a large-Nc NJL model
Experiments at RHIC and LHC suggest that the quark-gluon plasma produced in heavy-ion collisions behaves as an almost-perfect fluid.
This is quantied by the ratio n/s, shear viscosity per entropy density. We investigate the NJL model in its large -Nc limit as effective model of quark matter and discuss how the shear viscosity emerges from dissipative processes in system out of thermal equilibrium. Thermal masses of quarks and pions are derived from the gap equation and Bethe-Salpeter equation. We present recent results for the T and µ dependencies of n/s in the vicinity of the chiral phase transition.
