Factorization Theorems and Hadronic Matrix Elements (part 1)

In this somewhat introductory talk, I will give an overview of perturbative QCD, from the point of view of effective field theory methodology, and its applications to modern high-energy colliders (such as the LHC).
I will touch upon the basics of Soft-Collinear Effective Theory (SCET) and its success in deriving the relevant facotrization theorems for processes like Drell-Yan heavy lepton pair production or the related Higgs boson production at the LHC. I will conclude this first talk by specifying some long standing problems related to non-perturbative hadronic matrix elements.In the second talk I will introduce the main results obtained recently to resolve some issues in that regard. Time allows, I will discuss some topics related to spin physics, evolution of TMDs, Collins-Soper-Sterman (CSS) formalism, factorization breaking effects and Glauber gluons
