GRAVITATIONAL WAVES, BLACK HOLES AND NEUTRON STARS: A JOURNEY IN EINSTEIN'S UNIVERSE

Einstein's theory of general relativity predicts the existence of gravitational waves, black holes and neutron stars. These objects, whose discovery Einstein could not see, represent emblematic examples of the radically different vision that his theory of gravity has introduced. In my lecture I will introduce the properties of these objects and illustrate how it is now possible to explore their properties using the computing power of modern supercomputers. The result will be a virtual journey in Einstein's universe.
